Monetization Policy

Last updated: 24 August 2026

Bookween's monetization system is designed to allow eligible verified publishers to earn from their writing, readership, memberships, advertising, and other approved monetization programs while Bookween centrally manages payment collection, accounting, fraud protection, refunds, adjustments, and payouts.

1. Monetization Eligibility

Monetization is available only to eligible verified publishers on Bookween.

Verification does not automatically guarantee access to monetization. Bookween may consider account standing, publishing activity, content quality, policy compliance, payment eligibility, financial verification, and other relevant factors before enabling, limiting, suspending, or revoking monetization features.

See the Verification Policy for how publisher verification works.

2. How Payments Work

All payments made through Bookween are collected by Bookween first.

This may include:

  • Publisher membership revenue
  • Paid or premium content revenue
  • Advertising revenue
  • Platform bonuses or incentives
  • Other eligible monetization programs introduced by Bookween

Payments Are Never Direct

Readers, advertisers, or other customers do not make direct payments to publishers through Bookween.

After applicable fees, taxes, refunds, chargebacks, platform revenue share, and other necessary adjustments are calculated, the eligible publisher portion is credited to the publisher's Bookween earnings balance.

3. Publisher Earnings

Publisher earnings may come from multiple sources.

  • Membership Earnings — eligible revenue generated from memberships or premium access associated with a publisher.
  • Advertising Earnings — eligible revenue attributed to advertising activity associated with a publisher's content.
  • Bonuses and Adjustments — promotional incentives, rewards, corrections, or accounting adjustments made by Bookween.

One Publisher Balance

Eligible earnings from different monetization sources may contribute to the same publisher balance.

4. Earnings Status

Publisher earnings may appear in different states.

  • Pending Earnings — recently generated earnings that are still subject to validation, refunds, fraud review, chargebacks, or other clearing requirements. Pending earnings are not eligible for payout.
  • Available Balance — cleared earnings that are eligible to count toward the minimum payout threshold.
  • Paid Out — earnings that have already been successfully paid to the publisher.

5. Minimum Payout Threshold

The minimum payout threshold on Bookween is US $100 in Available Balance.

A publisher becomes eligible for payout only when their Available Balance reaches or exceeds US $100.

Pending earnings do not count toward the $100 payout threshold.

If a publisher's Available Balance remains below $100 at the end of a payout period, the balance will automatically carry forward to the following month and will continue accumulating until the minimum payout threshold is reached.

The publisher does not lose earnings simply because the threshold has not yet been reached.

6. Payout Schedule

Publisher earnings are paid during the 14th to 21st of the following month.

For example: eligible earnings generated during January will be paid between February 14 and February 21, provided the publisher's Available Balance has reached at least US $100.

Similarly:

  • February earnings are normally paid between March 14 and March 21.
  • March earnings are normally paid between April 14 and April 21.
  • The same monthly payout cycle continues throughout the year.

Carrying a Balance Forward

If the publisher's Available Balance is below $100 when a payout cycle is processed, no payout will be issued for that cycle. The balance will remain in the publisher's Bookween account and carry forward until the minimum threshold is reached.

For example, if a publisher earns $45 in January, $30 in February, and $40 in March, their balance becomes $115. Because the balance did not reach $100 during the January or February payout cycles, no payout would be issued then. Once the eligible balance reaches $115 after March, the publisher would normally receive the eligible payout between April 14 and April 21.

Payout processing may occasionally take longer because of weekends, banking delays, payment provider requirements, currency conversion, compliance reviews, security checks, or other circumstances outside Bookween's reasonable control.

7. Payout Verification

Before receiving a payout, a publisher may be required to provide information such as:

  • Legal name
  • Country of residence
  • Valid payout details
  • Identity information
  • Tax-related information
  • Professional or account verification
  • Additional information required for regulatory or payment compliance

Incomplete Information

Bookween may delay or hold payouts if required information is incomplete, inaccurate, inconsistent, or requires further review.

8. Fees and Revenue Share

Bookween may apply platform fees or revenue-sharing arrangements to different monetization products.

Applicable fees or revenue-sharing terms should be presented through the relevant monetization interface or terms.

Publisher earnings may also be affected by:

  • Payment processing fees
  • Currency conversion fees
  • Taxes
  • Refunds
  • Chargebacks
  • Banking or payout fees
  • Other transaction-related costs

No Undisclosed Retroactive Fees

Bookween will not intentionally apply undisclosed retroactive fees to completed publisher earnings.

9. Membership Revenue

Payments for publisher memberships are collected by Bookween.

After a membership transaction is successfully processed and applicable deductions are calculated, the eligible publisher share is credited to the publisher's Bookween earnings ledger.

A membership transaction does not create a direct financial payment relationship between the reader and the publisher.

The financial transaction is processed through Bookween, and the publisher receives their eligible earnings through Bookween's payout system.

10. Advertising Revenue

Advertising earnings may be calculated using factors such as:

  • Eligible content performance
  • Qualified views or impressions
  • Ad delivery
  • Audience geography
  • Advertiser demand
  • Platform advertising revenue
  • Applicable Bookween revenue-sharing rules

What Does Not Count

A page load does not necessarily qualify as monetized activity.

Artificial refreshes, invalid traffic, automated traffic, bot activity, paywall teaser views, manipulated engagement, or other ineligible activity may be excluded from advertising revenue calculations.

Estimated advertising earnings may be adjusted before becoming Available Balance.

See the Advertising & Sponsored Content Policy for advertising standards.

11. Refunds and Chargebacks

If a transaction is refunded, reversed, disputed, or charged back, the related publisher earnings may be:

  • Removed while still pending
  • Deducted from Available Balance
  • Offset against future earnings
  • Recovered from future payouts where permitted

Recovery of Invalid Earnings

Bookween may recover earnings related to fraudulent, reversed, or otherwise invalid transactions, including amounts that were previously paid out where legally and operationally appropriate.

12. Invalid or Manipulated Activity

Publishers must not attempt to artificially increase monetization activity.

Prohibited conduct includes:

  • Generating artificial views, clicks, reads, or engagement
  • Using bots, scripts, automated systems, or traffic manipulation
  • Coordinating fraudulent engagement
  • Using multiple accounts to inflate earnings
  • Creating fraudulent transactions
  • Misleading users into purchasing memberships or paid access
  • Manipulating advertising activity
  • Attempting to bypass Bookween's monetization systems
  • Encouraging others to perform artificial monetized activity

Enforcement

Bookween may invalidate earnings, hold payouts, suspend monetization, restrict accounts, or take other appropriate action where manipulation or abuse is detected. See the Moderation Policy and Appeals & Enforcement Policy.

13. Content Eligibility

Publishing content on Bookween does not automatically make that content eligible for monetization.

Bookween may consider factors including:

  • Content standards
  • Originality
  • Copyright compliance
  • Safety requirements
  • Advertising suitability
  • Monetization policies
  • Platform integrity
  • Applicable laws and regulations

Published but Not Monetized

Content may remain published on Bookween while being restricted from one or more monetization programs. See Content & Publishing Standards.

14. Taxes

Publishers are responsible for understanding and complying with tax obligations applicable to their earnings in their jurisdiction.

Bookween may request tax information, apply withholding, issue tax-related documentation, or report payments where required by law, regulation, or payment providers.

15. Currency and Conversion

Bookween may display publisher earnings using a standard accounting currency such as United States dollars.

If payouts are received in another currency, conversion rates and fees may be applied by Bookween's payment provider, banking partners, or the publisher's financial institution.

The final amount received by the publisher may therefore differ from the displayed Bookween balance after applicable conversion or payout fees.

16. Holds and Reviews

Bookween may temporarily hold earnings or payouts when necessary. Reasons may include:

  • Account security concerns
  • Fraud investigations
  • Chargeback activity
  • Incomplete verification
  • Invalid payout information
  • Unusual revenue patterns
  • Legal requirements
  • Tax or compliance requirements
  • Payment provider reviews
  • Platform policy investigations

Legitimate Earnings

Bookween's intention is not to unreasonably withhold legitimate cleared publisher earnings.

17. Suspension or Loss of Monetization

Bookween may suspend, limit, or revoke monetization privileges for serious or repeated violations of Bookween policies.

Where not restricted by law, fraud investigations, chargebacks, payment disputes, or other legitimate obligations, valid cleared earnings will be handled according to the applicable payout terms.

Loss of monetization access does not necessarily require removal of the publisher's account or previously published content.

18. Changes to Monetization Terms

Bookween may introduce new monetization products, payout providers, revenue-sharing models, eligibility requirements, payout thresholds, fee structures, or payout procedures over time.

Material changes affecting publisher earnings or payouts will be communicated with reasonable notice where appropriate.

19. Transparency

Bookween aims to provide publishers with clear information about their monetization activity. The publisher monetization dashboard may display information such as:

  • Pending Earnings
  • Available Balance
  • Lifetime Earnings
  • Paid Out
  • Revenue Sources
  • Membership Earnings
  • Advertising Earnings
  • Bonuses
  • Adjustments
  • Payout History
  • Next Payout Window

The Principle

Bookween's monetization model is based on a simple principle: all revenue flows through Bookween. Publisher earnings are recorded transparently, cleared responsibly, and paid once the minimum payout threshold is reached.

For eligible publishers, payouts are normally processed between the 14th and 21st of the following month, provided the publisher has reached the minimum US $100 Available Balance threshold.
