Moderation Policy
Last updated: 24 August 2026
Bookween moderates content to protect readers, publishers, platform integrity, and the quality of the publishing environment.
Private Before Approval
Where pre-publication moderation applies, a submitted article should remain private or pending moderation until required moderation checks are completed.
Content should not briefly become public and then be removed after detection.
The safer model is: Private -> Moderate -> Approve -> Public.
Automated Moderation
Bookween may use automated systems or trusted moderation providers to assist with analysis of:
- Text
- Images
- Links
- Spam patterns
- Safety signals
- Other relevant content attributes
- Automated decisions may use risk categories or confidence scores.
Human Review
Content may be escalated for human review where:
- Automated systems are uncertain.
- Context matters.
- A user appeals.
- A serious policy issue is suspected.
- Verification or professional context requires review.
Possible Decisions
SAFE: eligible for normal publication.
REVIEW: remains private or restricted while reviewed.
REJECTED: cannot be published in its submitted form.
Other enforcement may apply depending on the violation.
Areas of Moderation
Moderation may address:
- Explicit sexual content
- Exploitation
- Threats and violence
- Harassment
- Hate
- Fraud
- Spam
- Impersonation
- Malicious links
- Copyright issues
- Platform manipulation
- Other policy violations
Context Matters
Words alone are not always enough to determine intent. Educational, literary, historical, medical, scientific, or journalistic discussion of sensitive subjects may be treated differently from exploitative or pornographic content.
Severe Safety Issues
Some categories may require immediate restriction, preservation of relevant evidence, account action, or legally required reporting. Bookween will act according to applicable law and platform obligations.
Bookween does not publish unnecessary operational details about detection methods that would make moderation easier to evade.
Verified Users Are Not Exempt
Verification does not provide immunity from moderation. A verified professional may have content restricted or verification suspended for policy violations.
Appeals
Where eligible, users may challenge moderation decisions under the Appeals & Enforcement Policy.
Privacy
Moderation-related data is handled under the Privacy Policy.
